I have done a few cost-benefit analyses of one-time purchases versus subscription models over the years. I think as the developers have embraced the concept that you do not “own” the software, you are paying rent for it probably hasn’t helped. You need to weigh up and see if your time spent learning Blender is worth more than the cost of subscribing to an app (AE) you know can handle the work you do. (Don’t know your situation, so things in your part of the world may be different.)Īs someone else said, Blender definitely can do all the 2D and 3D stuff you need to create professional-quality work for free, but that freedom comes at the time-value cost of climbing a steep, steep learning curve. I have been on the cycle of cancelling my annual contract (when the Black Friday Sale starts) and then re-subscribing at half the retail cost for three or four years now.

I've been having a hard time finding people that create similar content on different software so I'm really hoping there's something out there that I just haven't found yet.Īny ideas? Paid and free software are both fine, just nothing with a subscription service. Especially because of that last one, it's probably a long shot to find a good alternative, but I wanted to ask anyway.

Obviously I rely a lot of the vector shapes and lines, and AE allowing me to directly import and animate from Illustrator. Here's two examples of the type of stuff I make: Characters and Motion Graphics (pretty amateur stuff but it gives an idea of how I use After Effects) But I still need to find something that can meet the somewhat specific needs that I use After Effects with. I'm already using Krita and I'll likely get Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. The Adobe software is just too expensive for me to keep up with and I've been looking for tools to replace it with.
